Turns out my printer (Pulse XE) was under extruding by 60mm. Checking to see if this was the issue.

Not sure what fixed it but I uninstalled, reinstalled 1.7 and then updated and it fixed itself. My assumption would be there's a package missing in the new update.

Well I dunno. Went to work wracking my brain as to what the issue could be....got back home expecting half a night of troubleshooting, switched it on, levelled the bed and it's fine....totally random issue that seems to have fixed itself (for now). I seem to be getting some nice prints with MatterControl now, so it may become my new favourite slicer after a few more prints

@Isreal, remember that WD-40 is not a lubricant. Most printers use sealed bearings, which shouldn't require lubrication, but if its really necessary you should probably use silicone spray.

Well, now I know what I am working in this weekend...
