The vanilla version of MatterControl (available from mattercontrol.com) only has a few models in the Library by default.

Certain versions (like the ones available from ROBO 3D or SeeMeCNC) contain more models. One of those is probably the version your buddy showed you.

I noticed this same bug when running 1.4.0 on Windows 10. I don't know if there is a fix for it, but it was one of the reasons I decided to download the code and see if I can help make this great program even better.
