How to Update on Ubuntu?

  • I am running MatterControl 1.7.0 on Ubuntu 16.04 and it tells me there is an update.
When I click on update, it duly downloads the file, then I click on install.

It runs the archive showing me the contents. I uncompress, and end up with:

    ~/.local/share/MatterControl/updates
    control.tar.gz data.tar.xz debian-binary MatterControlSetup-1.7.5.tar.gz

No update seems to occur. I can't find any instructions on what I am supposed to do with the files?

Interestingly, when I try to uncompress just to look I get an error.

    tar -xzf MatterControlSetup-1.7.5.tar.gz

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
    tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

@dovkruger Thank you for your message. I will see if I can find a solution for you going forward.

  • The file is not actually a .tar.gz file. It is a .deb file. I'm not sure how it is getting the wrong extension in your case. All you need to do is rename it to MatterControlSetup-1.7.5.deb and then install it as normal. You can also just download the .deb file directly from https://www.matterhackers.com/store/l/mattercontrol/sk/MKZGTDW6.
