Identifying Printer
-
I bought my printer 2nd hand in a plain brown box. The display says "Omni", the files refer to A8 and the MatterControl software seems happy enough to think it is a Prusa i3 Mk2, but I'd like to identify it a bit better to see if it wants firmware updates or owt like it.
Any top tips or suggestions?

The best thing you could do is post a picture of it. It sounds like it could be an Anet A8.

Funny how one's perfectly good shelf suddenly looks horribly untidy when viewed through a camera lens... Luckily I know where my towel is.
Enclosed also a picture of the mainboard, in case that helps...

Definitely looks like an Anet A8 to me.

So what board would that be, in terms of firmware updates?
I was moved to look into them yesterday when I thought my firmware had gone doolally, It hadn't, but I've been left thinking that there may be better alternatives...

It's their own board, likely running some variant of Marlin. There is a good chance it is compatible with the RAMPS 1.4, though.

Will it blow up if it isn't though?
That is my concern...
Any tips or recommendations on which firmware or howto?

You'll have to configure it from scratch for your machine, unless you can get the original configuration from the manufacturer or from someone who has already done it. Don't worry too much about breaking anything. A bad firmware config is unlikely to cause any damage, but it will prevent the machine from functioning.

I went with Skynet.
Printing a lot better, but I also tightened the belts, which may have also helped.
