MC on Linux won't Slice

  • I am in the process of switching back to Linux after several years on Windows, and I am trying to get MatterControl to work. At the moment, I'm trying to set up a Printrbot Simple.

I had trouble getting MC to detect the printer, but found it was the baud rate, as described in this comment: https://forums.matterhackers.com/topic/145/linux-mint-no-usb-serial-connection/5

Now that I can control the printer (heating, homing, etc), I tried to slice a model, but MatterControl seems to have paused at "Preparing to slice model...". The software isn't hung up: I can still home the printer. But it does not seem to get past this "Preparing" message. Any advice?

This happens on several models, including the default Calibration Cube. I am using MC 1.7.5 on Debian Buster.
